Indications for otoplasty
Protruding auricles that deviate from the aesthetic norm.
Before ear correction surgery:
A consultation is essential, during which the patient is informed about the necessary incisions, scars and the expected result. A decision is made as to whether there is a need to reduce the auricle or remove additional deformities. Tests (ordered during the consultation): blood type, complete blood count, coagulation panel.
Type of anaesthesia:
Local anaesthesia; in the case of a young patient, the presence of a parent in the operating room sometimes has a positive effect.
Duration of otoplasty surgery:
1 to 1.5 hours.
Surgical procedure:
Through an incision on the posterior surface of the auricle, excess skin is removed and the necessary incisions and excisions are made in the auricular cartilage. Bleeding is controlled. Shaping sutures are placed to model the ear shape, along with skin sutures. The procedure is completed by applying a soft dressing.
Results of otoplasty:
Post-operative recommendations after otoplasty:
Sleeping on the ears is not permitted during the first post-operative days. Sutures are removed on day 7. An elastic headband should be worn at night for 6 weeks to hold the ears in place. Caution is advised when putting on clothing that could pull on the operated auricle (turtlenecks, T-shirts with a small head opening). Return to work is possible after one week. Bruising and ear swelling may persist for 2-3 weeks.
Recovery time:
The final result is visible after 6 weeks.
